Learning through play
The Pre-School was established in 1991 located in the safe and secure grounds of the Mossley Hill Parish Church. We are a welcoming, approachable and caring community who aim to bring quality learning and cater for children between 2-5 years old.
Supporting your child through their Pre-School journey
Every child registering with Mossley Hill is invited for a familiarisation visit with their parent/carer. This will give you a chance to see the setting and meet the staff. we will talk to the parent/carer about their child and parents will be given a detailed 'All about me' and registration pack. The visit will give the parents an opportunity to discuss their child and any know specific needs with us, this will then help us to support the child through their time at Pre-School.
We have an 'open door policy and actively encourage parents/carers to tell us about the child's home life and things that may affect their development. Working closely with parents means we can help a child achieve their maximum development potential.
Each child is allocated a keyperson. The key person will help settle the child when they begin their journey with us and build a rapport with the child and parents.
We will ensure your child develops and learns through their interests an characteristics of learning. Trackers and Progress Development Charts allow the keyperson to monitor a child's development and will enable them to determine what 'next steps' to take in order to continue for them to flourish on their early years journey. if any of these observations raise concerns, the key person speaks with the SENCO and together they will speak to the parents of the child and work out the best way to support the child.
Our Curriculum
Although each half term we have an over arching topic, which will be taught through books and memorable moments, our play based curriculum springs from the interest and needs of our children derived from the observations we make each day. We look for teachable moments in the midst of their fun and intervene purposefully to direct learning.
We use the new Development Matters to support children's learning.
There is a new focus on early language and extending vocabulary across the curriculum.
Big focus on the motor skills
There are 7 areas in the EYFS Curriculum, These are:-
The 3 prime areas:
* Communication and Language
* Physical Development
* Personal, Social and Emotional Development
The 4 specific areas:
* Literacy
* Maths
* Understanding the World
* Expressive Arts and Design
